Characterisation of AuCNTs modified GC electrode
Typical TEM images of blank and Au modified CNTs are shown in Fig. 1 where (c) is a picture of unmodified CNTs; (a) and (b) are pictures of gold modified CNTs. From the TEM images, it is apparent that gold nanoparticles with a mean diameter around 10nm are deposited on to the wall of the nanotubes.
The GC electrode was modified by first dispersing 0.2mg of the AuCNTs in 1mL of chloroform and sonicated for 30 min. The amount of gold nanoparticles on the modified GC electrode surface can be controlled by placing different volume of the AuCNTs suspension on to the electrode surface. The electrode is then left at room temperature for the solvent to evaporate immobilising the AuCNTs on the electrode surface.
