5. Conclusions
The solid biomass fuel from bio-waste material (such as rice straw
and rice bran) was prepared and characterized. The hot-pressing
temperature significantly affects the air-dry density and the compressive
strength of the briquette. The rice bran during the process of
thermal-compression is able to promote the densification of the
biomass briquette. The heating value of the briquette increases with
increasing the percentage of the rice bran and the hot-pressing temperature.
Most importantly, this work demonstrates the feasibility of
preparing solid biomass fuel from rice straw and rice bran, and
proposes a method to change these abandoned rice straws into the
renewable energy resource.
