Tracking Weak Language
Now that you have seen both obvious and subtle examples of weak language, it may be more noticeable than ever before as you interact with people in various settings. Although you may find it difficult to stop using weak language at first, the first step is to become more aware of your own weak language usage and try to reduce its presence.
To prepare:
Listen for weak language during the next 24 hours at your workplace, school, in news media, or in one-on-one conversations.
Use the Weak Language Tracker to keep a record of the weak language you identify during the next 24 hours.
Submit by Day X your Weak Language Tracker to your faculty.
To submit your Practice, click on Assignments on the left navigation bar, and select “Module 1 Practice 1” to begin.
Save your assignment as a “.doc” file with the filename “M1Practice1+first initial+last name.doc”. For example, Sally Ride’s filename would be “M1Practice1SRide.doc”.
