In order to enhance CLA in ruminant meat, feeding CLA directly to
meat producing ruminants does not seem to be a preferred option yet,
even though CLA has been used in dairy cattle to strategically reduce
milk fat content and, thus, the energy deficit at the start of lactation However, due to the action of the ruminal
microbes it is possible to increase the content of CLA in the meat
through feeding diets rich in PUFA
Chilliard et al. described in detail the biohydrogenation
pathways for ALA and linoleic acid in the rumen.
