In the analytical tradition, editing serves to establish space and lead the viewer to the most salient aspect of the scene. In classic continuity editing, the editors try to hide the cuts as well as possible creating a sense of continuity; editing techniques avoid drawing attention to themselves. In a constructivist tradition, such as Soviet Montage for example, editing serves the creation of meaning and the editor is not too obsessed with hiding the cut; creating a new reality out of disparate fragments.
