By 2011, transgenic oil crops have been grown on more than half a billion acres in the United States alone. Along with plants that have been engineered to be resistant to herbicides, pesticides and stresses, many varieties of these crops have been modified to have traits that control oil characteristics. Raising people's awareness and acceptance of genetically modified (GM) crops is a positive signal for the future when transgenic crops will be a common commodity elevating human food and health standards.
