This procedure yielded a fungal strain that we named TG2. TG2 had
similar growth, but significantly higher levels of cellulolytic
enzyme activities than T. reesei RUT-C30 (Fig. 1), a major commercial
strain used for production of cellulolytic enzymes. Consistent
with these initial results on solid media, cultivation in a liquid
medium with 1% glucose as a substrate, indicated that TG2 had
higher activities of endoglucanase (2.0-fold greater), exoglucanase
(1.7-fold greater), and b-glucosidase (4.0-fold greater) than T. reesei
RUT-C30 (Fig. 2).
We also analyzed the 18S rRNA sequences of this new isolate
determined from draft whole genome sequencing by a Blast search
