2.2.2 Psychological functions
Evidence supports that elderly who live in the community suffer from
psychological distress symptom between 27 and 48 percents. In addition, psychological function is directly related to aging especially elderly aged over 75 years who show dramatically attenuate in psychological functions. Furthermore, elderly with loss of physical functions and more severe disability are more susceptible to decrease psychological function. On the other hand, the psychological deterioration also leads to the decrease of physical function and increased rates of morbidity, mortality and disability. Psychological deterioration associates with the loss of attention, interest, initiation, motivation and cognitive functions of the elderly. The psychological impairment also relates to depression and anxiety.
