Methodology
An exploratory qualitative study was undertaken. Semistructured
interviews were conducted with a purposive
sample of 10 student nurses: five student nurses were from a Swedish background and five from an immigrant background. In addition to ethnic background, students were selected because they had undertaken a taught course in
transcultural nursing and had experience of working in multi-cultural care settings which they could draw upon during the interview. Volunteers, who fulfilled these criteria, were sought from a cohort of final year students.
