Environmental Benchmarking is used as a tool to measure and compare products, services and practices with the best practices of organizations. These best practices can be used to improve business operations and result in the achievement of world class standards. The TBCSD has applied and implemented benchmarking for environmental management focusing on raw materials, water and energy conservation. The project aims to reduce environmental impact and production costs. Six companies were selected from the TBCSD membership in the first year. The results included each company developing an action plan on energy, water and resource use management. In the second year, the project had implemented benchmarking on environmental management systems in which five companies were participating.
