The dehydrogenation reaction and conversion
of oxygen in cellulose to CO resulted in the formation of
residual carbon. Carbon contained in the residual carbon from
sample S5 was approximately 0.0020 mol. Apparently, H2, CO,
and CO2 produced from sample S5 at high temperatures came
mainly from the wateregas reaction of the residual carbon
and the wateregas shift reaction. The residual carbon could be
considered coal formed by biomass because of physical
function and the chemical reactions. However, its reaction
characteristics at high temperatures indicated that the gasification
characteristics of biomass were significantly different
from those of coal.
