2. In addition to an introductory letter, make an effort to make phone contact with all parents within the first month of class. Take just a few minutes---a quick call to let them Know who you are and that you are looking forward to teaching their son or daughter. Still think this is an enormous task? Don’t try to call every parent in one or two nights. Make it your goal to call five a day---even if it’s just to leave a message on the answering machine. You’ll be surprised how quickly you get through the list. Better yet, make arrangements with the other teachers in your team so that each one of you will call five parents a day. You will be able to contact all of them, and no one will feel overextended.
