Once the process is clearly understood, together with all the necessary data acquisition nodes, it is then possible to develop or adapt a monitoring, information and, ultimately, a control strategy best suited to the requirements of the plant. The second requirement is the development of necessary sensor systems. Any process control system is only as good as the data it reacts to. The most important trend in process control sensor development is the desire to move from laboratory analysis to the use of in/at-line sensor systems which can supply equivalent information. This allows more reactive response of the control system to the dynamic parameters of the raw materials and the product being produced.
