Filter feeding experiments were conducted using algal-rich water from PAS units at the
Calhoun Field Station, Clemson University, South Carolina. Similar-sized Nile tilapia
(108F0.05 g) and silver carp (110F0.10 g) were stocked at the same biomass (1.5 kg) in
four 127-l Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors (CSTR) for each species while a ninth CSTR
was operated without fish as a control. Prior to stocking, fish were held in algae-free water
for 12 h to evacuate the gut.
