During the past few years Bokeo has made many advances in agriculture. For example.
1. The number of rice fields has doubled.
2. The number of reservoir s, canals, and irrigation systems has increased and this has caused people to plant more market crops such as corn, sesame, tobacco, beans, other vegetables and fruit trees.
3. The amount of livestock (such as cattle, buffaloes, horse, goats, pigs, and poutry ) has more than doubles in the past ten years.
4. Many families of Hmong have given up the traditional way of growing rice (called "slash and burn" ) because they continually cut down and burn new areas of the forest. They are now growing paddy rice and other crops.
