Studies often do not persist for a sufficient length of time to assess the impacts of cable presence on the distribution of benthic organisms and condition of their habitat. Even fewer studies focus on the effects of cables on lesser studied habitats and ecologically and biologically significant areas, such as hard corals (Reiter and Deis, 2000 and Sultzman et al., 2002) and seamounts (Kogan et al., 2006). To date, no studies have assessed the effects of cables on glass sponge reefs.
