The two BAFs were used, one of which was as control experiment
and the other was combined with ozonation (Fig. 1). The
two BAFs featuring the filter column are both 1500 mm in height
and 150 mm in inner diameter. The columns contained a ceramic
media approximately 2–3 mm in diameter with an average specific
surface area of 4.8 m2/g. A percolated plate was placed in each column
to support the 1050 mm media layers. Air was provided into
the columns through a diffuser located near the bottom of the columns.
The hydraulic retention time was 2 h, and the gas/liquid
ratio was maintained at 5:1.
