2.12 Plantar pressure distribution pattern during walking
The greatest peak pressures appeared under the heel, forefoot and big toe (over 200 kPa) and the least pressures appeared under the midfoot and lateral toes during walking in normally. The toes are significant in weight bearing at the last 30% of stance period. Comparison of peak pressure in each area from many studies shown in figure 2.10.
The most peak pressures under the heel happen in early stance and the highest pressures under the metatarsal heads in late stance. The heel and midfoot had a time of touch the ground approximately 60% of all stance phase, the metatarsal heads approximately 60% and under the toes 50–55%.
