A similar implementation that comprises the
first phase of the whole project started one year
ago in Athens regarding 295 buses of the Athens
Thermal Bus Operator (ETHEL). According to
the plans of the Athens Public Transport Organisation
(OASA), which is the Coordinative Agency
for Greater Athens Area, all buses will have been
equipped with GPS based on board units by the
year 2003. Furthermore, a number of bus stops
ranging between 1000 and 1500 will have been
equipped with real time information displays [8]. A
control center is also under construction that will
be extended to cover the whole ETHEL fleet.
