Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an immune-sys-
tem-mediated interstitial lung disease caused by the pres-
ence of several foreign environmental antigens, including
avian proteins as well as endotoxin and mold spores. Historically, the mushroom industry has been associated
with a high incidence of HP, resulting in an HP-associated condition known as mushroom worker’s lung
(MWL). Recently, there have been several informative
and comprehensive general reviews on HP [1–3] , but they
do not address MWL specifically or in an industrial con-
text. Hence the aim of this update is to give a synthesis
of recent published reports with specific reference to
MWL.
