Hansel and Gretel heard their stepmother talking and Hansel had a very clever idea. The next morning, the
woodcutter and his wife took Hansel and Gretel out and left them in the forest. Hansel, however, had put
some pebbles in his pocket and had dropped one from time to time so the children came back home by
following the pebbles. The next day, the woodcutter and his wife again took the children into the forest.
This time Hansel dropped bread crumbs but the birds ate them all and the children were lost. They walked
on looking for the path home until night came when they went to sleep under a big tree feeling very lonely
and sad.
