Analytical models often are used for machine performance simulation, parameter sensitivity study, and control
system design because of their fast and flexible computation.
However, they are far from accurate under
highly saturated conditions. For example, when comparing
actual test results with the torque-angle characteristics
of a 30 hp PMSM at rated currents as estimated from an
analytical model (Fig. 2 and Table 3), the estimated
torques are much higher. This is due mainly to the saturation
effect. A more accurate inductance calculation
method is therefore necessary to improve the accuracy of
analysis, especially for inductance evaluation.
