The second group took place in a training room
within the Biochemistry Department at the Worcestershire
Royal Hospital and was scheduled at the
start of the working day. From the outset, this group
was more problematic. None of the invitees had
arrived by the group’s scheduled start time, and the
facilitators had to try and find them. This situation
arose because the arrangements for the group were
not communicated well within the department.
Attendees had expected to be collected from their
workplace and as a result only three people attended,
one of whom arrived 15 minutes late. Initially the
tenor of the group seemed hostile, although this
hostility was largely directed at the arrangements
for the focus group rather than the library service.
Advanced facilitation skills were required to direct
the group in a more positive direction.
