Experiment 2 used a lower bacterial challenge dose to limit mortality
to less than 100%. Otherwise, the same challenge protocols were
used as in Experiment 1. Five aquaria were used for each of the four waters
to assess 4-day survival: one negative control and four replicate
challenge aquaria. One replicate tank of each water was challenged
and used to quantify bacterial adhesion to gills. Animal care and experimental
protocols were approved by the SNARC Institutional Animal
Care and Use Committee and conformed to Agricultural Research Service
Policies and Procedures 130.4 and 635.1.
