In previous chapters we learned some of the ways that foreigners get offend by Thai customs. In this chapter we will learn some of the ways that Thai people can get offend by foreigners customs. When this happens, you can do either of two things: explain or ignore.
If the action makes you or other Thai people very uncomfortable, and you are afraid that someone will be offended by the actions of your friends, then explain to them about the Thai custom. They won't lose face if you do this, because you remember from chapter four that foreigners appreciate positive criticism. They will probably be happy that you told them, because they won't want to offend other people. On the other hand, if you don't think the action is very bad, you can decide to ignore it and say nothing. Just remember that they didn't intend to be rude, and then maybe you won't be offended.
