Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls” has barely gotten under way, but the new NBC reality show already seems to have its first star: Beverly Hills hairstylist Kyle Krieger.
Without ever being an overt scene-stealer in the show’s premiere episode, which aired Monday night, Krieger steadily staked a claim to having the cast’s biggest personality. Part of that goes to his backstory: In the cast biography provided by NBC, Krieger explains that various issues drove him into addiction at a young age, which he didn’t break out of until he came out to his friends and family as gay.
This sometimes adds poignancy to his approach to the game. Explaining why he chose to plunge into frigid water, risking hypothermia, he explained that he’d spent years using drugs to make himself numb, and having kicked that habit, he wasn’t going to be afraid to feel.
Yet he also brings his share of comedy. At the front of a team to recover food left for the team's dinner, Krieger was startled to realize it was a freshly killed deer. "I'm a vegetarian!" he blurted, to the amusement of some viewers
