this indicates the removal of lignin and hemi-cellulose and results in an increase in the degree of crystallinity and a higher tensile strength (Montane et al., 1998). A shoulder peak at 16.49 of (101) reflection and a weak peak at 34.5of (040) reflection appear in the spectrum of the produced CA; these are assigned to the cellulose phase. The weak diffraction peak appears around 14.6in the diffrac-tion pattern of CA in the two samples; these could be indexed with the crystalline peaks of CTAII modification (Sun and Sun, 2002).
