This double-blind randomized placebo-controlled multicenter
trial investigated the effectiveness of cranberry capsules
to prevent UTI in older LTCF residents. In
participants with high UTI risk, twice-daily intake of cranberry
capsules resulted in a 26% lower incidence of clinically
defined UTI than placebo, but no difference was
found in UTI incidence of strictly defined UTI. In residents
with low UTI risk, twice-daily intake of cranberry capsules
did not result in a lower incidence of UTI than with placebo.
