There are a few ways to reach to the top of the hill. You can hike from Kimpun, which takes longer (about 5-6 hours) and more exhausting than taking the truck, but the walk can feel lovely. You can feel the spectacular views, jungle air and nearby waterfalls along the way. You can also enjoy completely green mountains, sunset and sunrise from the top of the hill. As an alternative, porters can carry you up on a sedan chair on poles. Do not worry if you feel uncomfortable being carried, in Myanmar it is quite common that older or wealthy people let the porters earn.
The beauty of Kyaik Htee Yoe is to observe the pilgrims praying, lighting candles and donating thin gold leaves on the boulder, which however is only permitted for males. There are plenty of buildings around for religious purposes but also to provide for the many pilgrims in several ways.
