This study was conducted at the Fisheries Field Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Mymensingh (23 58 N, 89 38 E) is in the northeast district of Bangladesh, in the catchment of the River Brahmaputra.
The study population occupied a small perennial lake of approximately 3.42 ha with an average depth of 1.2 m and a silt substrate and abundant aquatic vegetation at the margins.
The annual range in water temperature was 17–33 ºC.
