A study on the antibacterial activity of indigenous plants fromthe Eastern Cape identified
Grewia occidentalis, Polystichum pungens, Cheilanthes viridis and
Malva parvifolia asmedicinal plants commonly used inwound healing.
Highest activity was observed for Polystichum pungens with an
MIC value of 0.5 mg/ml against Bacillus spp. (Grierson and Afolayan,
1999).
