The elements of a civic concept of scientific literacy represent a consciousness of behaviors that
serve as guidelines for interpreting the functions of science/technology in human affairs and the
management of one’s life. These behaviors also serve as guidelines for reinventing science curricula
in grades K–12, which has been called for in the education reform movement. The following
