For collection sites of medicinal materials (Table 1) there were
three sources: cultivation, nature and herbal store. Most medicinal
plants (29 species) could be obtained from cultivation. In this
study, frequently used plants tended to be grown in healers’ home
gardens for convenient use. Some plants (24 species) were
obtained from natural areas, fertile forests and scrubland, because
they might be easily and abundantly found in the natural setting.
Another source of plant materials, however, was herbal stores,
from which two species were obtained because these species had
to be imported from abroad. All chemical elements and
compounds were also bought from herbal stores.
