The biosurfactant An6 was extracted from the liquid culture
broth by different steps of ultrafiltration/diafiltration based on its
aggregation behavior and therefore used to compare its efficiencies
in emulsification and solubilization of diesel oil to those of synthetic
surfactants. Emulsification index of the biosurfactant An6 at a
concentration of 5 mg/mL was measured as 80 ± 2% for crude diesel
while those of the commercial surfactants, Tween 80 and SDS, were
found to be 75 ± 2% and 67 ± 1%, respectively (Table 1). Further,
