internationalization may imply the relocation of experienced
managers from the parent for the purpose of overseeing the transplantation and ongoing
implementation of the core capabilities in the foreign subsidiary. An advantage is that
expatriates are familiar with the organization and strategy of the MNC, and steeped in the
MNC’s corporate culture. They may be better able to keep the objectives of the foreign
subsidiary aligned with those of the parent, allowing the parent to avoid any dangers of
opportunistic behaviour by a local joint-venture (JV) partner.
