Microtubule arrangement and the scales o f Salmo
The surface topographies of the osseous layers of the scales of Salmo (Order
Isospondyli) are distinctly different from those of the cypriniform species considered
above (compare Figs 2, 16). Circular concentrically arranged circuli are present in all
regions of Salmo scales but there are no radii. The immunofluorescence procedure
did not clearly reveal microtubule distribution in the fibroblast layers of Salmo scales
and microtubules were not as readily detectable in the osteoblast layers as they were
in those of the cypriniform species. Furthermore, microtubules do not exhibit
