productivity and yield, especially when compared with batch
fermentations [16].
The literature also reports that simple substrates, such as
glucose, have been used in mixtures with other complex
substrates in the search for optimal conditions for hydrogen
production: glucose with xylose [17,18], with glycerol [19] and
with galactose [2]. The strategy of using mixed substrates
demonstrates the high interest among researchers in evaluating
the feasibility of hydrogen production via waste
fermentation in the presence of glucose.
