While profiles of both trafficked persons and traffickers varied considerably, the tactics
used to recruit, deceive, transport and exploit the victims remained similar. They are tempted
with plausible promises of employment, income, educational opportunities, or shelter and
care within adoptive families.
Traffickers have been able to exploit the context of historical migration patterns in the
region which is complemented by both the geographical situation of South Africa as well as
income/opportunity disparities
