The request was handed down at a meeting with law-enforcement authorities, including police and civil defense volunteers, at Provincial Hall this morning (Oct 14).
Governor Chokchai stressed that the “request” was not an order. “The idea is to allow people who work in the venues to have a chance to pay respect to HM King Bhumibol,” he said.
Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Teeraphol Thipjaroen confirmed to The Phuket News that police across the island will be upholding the request.
“This is normal. All people should be observing this period of national mourning. All police will be upholding this request from the Governor,”
