In adults there has been a lot of research into the
possible increased risk of thrombotic events with
NSAIDs (Kearney et al, 2006). The relevance of these
findings to paediatric patients is yet to be determined,
but the small increased risk of thrombotic events
occurring in children on ibuprofen and diclofenac
cannot be excluded (Paediatric Formulary Committee,
2010). Sensible use of the smallest effective dose for the
shortest period of time is advocated.
