Troubleshoot network issues
Mobile devices are usually pretty clever at selecting the most appropriate network for you automatically.
If you're having trouble with your service though or are on the fringe of coverage, forcing your device to a particular network mode can be a useful troubleshooting step. It'll help you check whether the issue is related to a specific network type, and might even serve as a workaround in the meantime.
Switching down to 2G or 3G may also help to conserve your battery if you're running low, but we'd suggest leaving the network mode setting on automatic whenever possible.
How it works
If your 4G/3G service isn't working as it should, switching to a different network mode may help you get by until the issue is resolved
On Vodafone, the 4G network is only used for data
Our 3G and 2G networks carry call and TXT traffic, as well as data (at a lower speed)
If you're only getting marginal coverage, selecting a different network mode may help you get more consistent coverage
