On August2, 2013, a company called Odyssey Marine Exploration removed over 50,000 kilograms (120,000 pounds) of silver from shipwreck off the coast of Ireland-the heaviest Amount of the metal ever taken from a shipwreck. The ship, the S.S. Gairsoppa, was carrying tea, iron, and sliver from the distant lands of India, when it sank in 1941. Today, that much sliver is worth almost $75 million. In addition to the sliver, the company also found some newspapers and letters written by the sailors.
