‘Cosplay’ Covens
If you check out a coven and its ideas cringe you out, then don’t join. This should be obvious but it isn’t always. This isn’t for any sinister reason, but mostly because if you want to be a part of a coven it’s best for you to agree with everything that goes down and to be proud to be there. If any aspects of the coven make you feel uncomfortable – such as ritual nudity – then find another group that aligns better with your existing beliefs and principles. If you don’t feel comfortable in a coven, you will receive no benefit from it. You will grow resentful, feel spiritually unfulfilled, and you’ve just wasted a lot of time and effort on things that do not benefit your spirituality. Things such as worshipping a My Little Pony or being forced to dress up in ridiculous costumes are great examples of this.
‘Give Me My Power!’ Leaders
If you find a leader who’s the only one that seems to really “get” it, chances are they’re on a power trip. Some covens and groups have leaders who simply get off on the idea of having “followers.” They will bask in their glory, and it’s typically pretty obvious. A leader is either typically a high priestess who is educated in the craft and is willing to bestow that knowledge on other members. The people who like to boss coven members around are not the people who’re going to help you on your spiritual journey, they are there to control you. The leaders who do not share their knowledge are in it for themselves. I was once a part of a Coven like this – the leader loved to mention her “teachings” to her “followers” and guess what? The coven fell apart. Also people love to call themselves High Priestesses, but guess what, that term typically is correlated to a degree program. Ask to see their credentials. Also if they are looking to recruit minors, they are tripping hard and desperate, and recruiting minors could actually get you into some legal trouble. Yeah. No joking around here.
