Ninety percent of lightning damage comes through the AC line. Now if you don’t have surge protection at your AC panel the surge will travel through the AC wiring looking for the lowest impedance to earth. This more often than not this turns out to be your ham station which is grounded via a ground rod somewhere either at your station or out at the tower or cable entrance. This is why all grounds, tower, station and AC panel should be bonded together.
Most likely the voltage protection diode, capacitor or a MOV on the DC input is popped. The twenty amp fuses on the power leads may not have been able to respond quickly enough to protect against an 8 us surge. I have not been under the hood of a FT-950 but you might pop the top and look for an input fuse that has opened up. If you find a fuse blown then trace the DC input wiring with a ohm meter and look for a shorted component on the input DC path.
Good luck.
