suggest that the risk of submersed macrophyte loss
increases significantly when the concentration of total nitrogen
(TN) exceeds 1.2e2 mg L1 and when total phosphorus (TP) exceeds
0.1e0.2 mg L1. While the global consumption of phosphate
fertilizers tends to be stable (FAOSTAT, 2014), the consumption of
nitrogenous fertilizers is still rising, which may potentially have
detrimental effects of nitrogen on submersed macrophytes.
