In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that optimized feeding management of high‐yielding sow genotypes during lactation is critical. Increasing the feeding frequency from two to three times daily resulted in a higher feed intake of sows, better body condition and less shoulder lesions, while there is an indication that it is positively correlated with lower rates of return to estrus. However, growth performance of the piglets was affected by litter size, but not feeding frequency or age of the sows.
