Among men and women, the prevalence ofHTN increases regularly with age, and except
for the younger age group, women were more often hypertensive than men (Fig 2). These differences between men and women of the same age groups were significant only for younger
and older adults (Fig 2). Multivariate analyses showed that age and educational level were associated with HTN (Table 2). Among hypertensives, gender, age, and the frequency ofdoctor visits were associated with awareness of HTN (Table 2). The small absolute number of
hypertensive subjects with controlled blood pressure made it impossible to perform trend analysis on the control ofHTN.
