Beloved King

On December 5, Thais will celebrate His Majesty’s 86th birthday anniversary throughout the Kingdom of Thailand. As a huge source of inspiration to Thai people, HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej has been the centre of love and unity since his accession to the throne in 1946. Therefore, wherever His Majesty presides over in the Land of Smiles, a large number of Thais always flock to witness his royal visits.
This week’s Exercises take a look at the monarch’s remarkable trip outside of Bangkok last year.
Born on December 5, 1927, and married to MR Sirikit on April 28, 1950, His Majesty has become widely known as the world’s hardest-working and longest-reigning monarch. Apart from his famous philosophies and countless royal activities, paying a royal visit across the country is another key activity that the King always pays attention to in spite of his illness.
MEMORABLE TRIP
In May, 2012, His Majesty the King, accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, visited the Thung Makham Yong field in Bang Bal district of Ayutthaya. It was a momentous return to a royally imitated paddy field where the King harvested rice 16 years ago.
Tens of thousands of people awaited his arrival along the route even for a glimpse of His Majesty. The visit by His Majesty was his first outside of Greater Bangkok in nearly three years. The King, who turns 86 on December 5 this year, has resided at Siriraj Hospital since September 2009, when he was admitted to undergo lung treatment.
