In 2008, the Burns maternity aromatherapy program was replicated by
the author and a group of OB unit nurses at Community North Hospital
in Indianapolis, extending the treatments through the early postpartum
period. The laboring and postpartum patients were the most
frequent recipients of aromatherapy (47% and 33% respectively).
The focus of this investigation grew from the results of the above
mentioned studies, which suggested that further work exploring
the effects of aromatherapy on anxiety and depression in the high
risk postpartum woman might be beneficial.
