Materials and reagents
1. Concentrated sulfuric acid
2. Molisch’s reagent: 5% (w/v) α-naphthol in 95% ethanol, freshly prepared
3. Seliwanoff’s reagent: 0.05% (w/v) resorcinol in 3M hydrochloric acid
4. Orcinol solution: dissolve 1.5g of orcinol in 100ml of concentrated
hydrochloric acid and add 20 – 30 drops of 10% ferric chloride solution
